What is Dental Disease in Pet's?

Dental disease is one of the most common medical conditions seen by veterinarians. Over 80% of dogs over the age of 3 have active dental disease & often we see in dogs aged 18 months.

Signs of periodontal disease in dogs include:

  • Red gums

  • Bleeding gums

  • Plaque

  • Bad breath

  • Blood in water or food bowls

  • Thick saliva

  • Favouring one side of the mouth

  • Dropping food while eating

  • Facial swelling

  • Rubbing the face with the paws or on the floor

Is Periodontal Disease Reversible in Dogs?

Gingivitis, Stage 1, is the only stage of periodontal disease that is reversible. This is because gingivitis only consists of inflammation, and at this stage, no destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth has occurred.
